It's a hot summer on Amity Island, a small community whose main business is its beaches. When new Sheriff Martin Brody discovers the remains of a shark attack victim, his first inclination is to close the beaches to swimmers. This doesn't sit well with Mayor Larry Vaughn and several of the local businessmen. Brody backs down to his regret as that weekend a young boy is killed by the predator. The dead boy's mother puts out a bounty on the shark and Amity is soon swamped with amateur hunters and fisherman hoping to cash in on the reward. A local fisherman with much experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the creature for a hefty fee. Soon Quint, Brody and Matt Hooper from the Oceanographic Institute are at sea hunting the Great White shark. As Brody succinctly surmises after their first encounter with the creature, they're going to need a bigger boat;

I first fell in love with Jaws when I was a kid and have watched it almost religiously ever since. It is also the only film that has prompted me to write a ‘review’ on this site(so far. To be honest, there is nothing i can say about ‘Jaws’ that hasn’t already been said before so I will just write about why I love this movie so much. I first watched it when I was about 7 and I remember crying because I was so scared and had NEVER experienced anything like it before (come on – gimme me a break, i was a kid. It wasn’t all fear though ‘cos i also remember feeling thrilled and excited by the high sea chase. SPOILER. and the joy I felt when Chief Brody destroyed the beast with the oh-so-cool kiss off line. When I watch the movie now, I still get the same feelings I had then because the film was always my favourite and it still has the power and magic to take me back to those innocent, summer days of childhood. Watching ‘Jaws’ as an adult makes me appreciate the movie on a whole different level… I recognise Speilberg’s daring direction (It is still his best film) I see the brilliant chemistry between the 3 lead actors (Shaw should have got an oscar for his ‘indianapolis’ speech alone) and I basically see the hardship that went into making this movie possible (after watching the dvd and reading Carl Gottliebs brillant ‘Jaws Log. Jaws is simply a near perfect film that will stay with me action, Thrilling adventure, Superb acting and even ‘Bruce’ doesn’t bother me (come on, he doesn’t look that bad – compare him to his ‘look’ in part 4 and you’ll see what i mean.
All in all, the greatest movie ever my opinion at least.

While Movies Like JAWS 2, The Meg, And The Shallows Are Awesome Movies, None Of Them Will Ever Be Has Good As JAWS. (Plus They Would’t Even Existed Without This Movie! The Music, The Acting, The Camera Work, Heck, Even The Poster a Masterpiece! The Character Are Perfect For This Movie. And That Fact You Almost Never See The Shark, And Just EVERYTHING in The Movie is Perfect! This Movie Made Me Into The Huge Movie Fan I Am To Day! It’s a Must See For EVERYONE.
I do admit that the story is rather silly initially, but essentially this is a captivating, well made and scary film. Full to the brim with brilliant dialogue, strong performances from Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, tension, suspense and Spielberg’s excellent direction this really is a must see. Jaws itself is really terrifying, but even more so was the truly haunting score from John Williams. If you think the shower scene motif, played very high on the violins from Psycho is scary, and it is, I am still traumatised from watching that scene, or in the wolf’s french horn theme in Prokoviev’s Peter and the Wolf, the great white shark theme played by the basses in this film is even scarier, it never fails to give me goosebumps. Technically this film can’t be faulted either. Overall, a must see, and is most likely to have you biting your nails. 10/10 Bethany Cox.
